Adopt a Pet

The Mission of Heart of Montana Animal Shelter and Canine Center

"To provide a safe environment for the care, training
and rehabilitation of homeless and unwanted pets,
with the goal of successful adoption into a new family."

MarleyWhy does Central Montana Need an Animal Shelter?

  • Fergus County, along with Petroleum, Judith Basin and Wheatland counties, have no policy in place, nor a facility to care for unwanted, abandoned or stray pets.
  • Pet owners need the option of surrendering a pet they can't care for to a shelter rather than euthanasia or abandonment.
  • HEART OF MONTANA ANIMAL SHELTER will serve as an option for the unwanted, homeless and abandoned pets in Central Montana.

Plans for the Shelter

Although we do not have a shelter built, we continue to write grants and raise money to make our vision a reality.  We are taking unwanted/abandoned dogs and cats that need help into veterinarian clinics.  There, they receive needed vaccination shots and medical attention.  Then we place them in homes or have foster homes for them.  We are in need of folks that would like to help with the fostering of a pet, or adoption.  Several cats and kittens have also been placed, and are in need of donations to cover the veterinarian bills for quarantine, shots and spay/neutering.

Non-Profit Status and Funding

Heart of Montana is a non-profit, 501(c)3 organization and will be dependent on donations and grants to develop and maintain the shelter.  We are investigating turbine wind power to generate our electricity, thus lowering our utility bills.  We plan to use steam for cleaning, as opposed to high pressure hoses and chemicals.  Much research has been done to assure building a shelter that will address acoustics and reduce stress for the animals, while considering their emotional well-being and basic training.  All these efforts will help the animals be good candidates for adoption in a "forever" home.

We will, in the near future, offer memberships, as well as sponsorships of dog kennels and/or cat condos.  If anyone would like to sponsor other areas of the shelter (grooming room, quarantine, iso chamber, real life room, items for the therapy room), please let us know.

We hope to get the facility underway soon so we can open our doors to the community and, more importantly, to the unwanted, abused, displaced pets that need and deserve a home.

We would like to extend a special thank-you to Walmart and Pamida
for their donations of pet food to our organization.
